For too long now Antrim GAA teams have under-achieved and have not had enough of the right sort of support.
Now, it is time to change all of that - it is time to stop waiting for someone else to do something and to take action for ourselves. In launching ONE ANTRIM we intend to create just that - ONE ANTRIM that moves forward and achieves together. We made a very positive start to our league campaign in both football and hurling and while promotion eluded us we continue to move forward with strong management teams in place in both codes.
Loughgiel Shamrocks won their second All Ireland Club Hurling Final on St. Patrick's day, adding to the All Ireland Club Football success of St. Gall's in 2010. This is clear proof that Antrim teams can achieve at the very highest levels in both codes, given the right support and leadership.
Our girls are performing highly as well, with All Ireland titles in both Ladies Football and Camogie in recent years. Indeed in March, sisters Fiona Shannon and Sibeal Gallagher were crowned All Ireland Senior Doubles Champions for an amazing sixth time.
To build on this success we need to continue with the development of our "State of the Art" Centre of Participation at Dunsilly. Progress has been great and we are nearly ready to fully commission some of the facilities, but we need more support. As Ireland's second largest county by population, we need to stand up and be counted. Now is the time to get behind our county.
One Antrim is a unique scheme which allows us all to be part of the future. It is the ultimate supporters club with many benefits for it's members. It is our plan to add additional benefits for members as and when they become available.
Antrim as a county is putting the right building blocks for success in place and we all have an opportunity to be part of it. Indeed, as Antrim gaels we have a duty to be part of this and to help to shape our future.
Are you with me - or are you happy with continued under-achievement?
Together we can do anything!!
